On Monday October 2, 2023, S – O High School Juniors, as well as juniors from other schools in northwest Iowa took a trip to Sheldon, IA, for the annual Junior Career Fair. The career fair was held on – campus at Northwest Iowa Community College. The fair consisted of many different activities including different job experiences, as well as different college stations for students to explore.

There were many separate career exploration stations in the different buildings at the college. Each student went to three different sessions based on their likes and career interests. The stations gave students an inside look at what many careers do each day. It also gave the juniors an insight into what it takes to get into that career field.

Many of them had good things to say about the experience. One of the S – O Juniors that attended, Alyssa Jacobsma, stated that: “The career fair was a great experience that helped me to decide more on what I wanted to do.” She attended photography, interior design, and banking and insurance sessions. After the experience, Jacobsma said that she is definitely more interested in the business field than she was before.

After the sessions had ended, all of the students had the opportunity to visit with different college representatives. Many of the colleges were from northwest and central Iowa, with a few other representatives from Nebraska, South Dakota, and Minnesota. The different colleges had tables set up with flyers, merchandise, and information for the students to take home with them.
