Too Cold for Biology

by T. Martinez

On Monday, May 2, 2022, S – O Sophomores were meant to go on a field trip for their biology class. The trip was to Lakeside Labs in Spirit Lake. Due to unfavorable weather, the trip was called off the week prior. Many sophomores feel saddened by the cancellation.

The trip to Lakeside Labs was to be this year’s annual biology field trip. The trip is graded on participation as it is part of the curriculum. If a student can not attend they are given work to make up for the grade. The trip is meant to test the students on the skills they have learned throughout the year.

Unfortunately, this year’s sophomores will not be able to go this year. Mr. Mike Wedge is the organizer for this event. Wedge had stated that this event will not be rescheduled for later this school year. “The next available date is during finals week,” Wedge mentioned as a reason for not rescheduling.

Last year’s sophomores have stated that they enjoyed the trip to Lakeside Labs. Junior Avery Zyslstra said that she enjoyed testing the pH of the water. Gilberto De la Cruz states, “We got to go on canoes, which was really fun. Though, the funniest part was when Garrett [Atherton] fell in the lake.” Sam Chambers also mentioned that his favorite part of the trip was canoeing and kayaking.
