Madrigal Dinner

by C. Lynn

Sibley – Ocheyedan High School hosted a Madrigal Dinner on December 7, 2019. The Madrigal Dinner was a cooperative event only possible with the help of staff, students and parents.

The Madrigal was a feast in the form of a renaissance-era dinner. Set in the Middle Ages, the evening included comedic skits that went along with the dinner. Each course of the meal was accompanied by traditional Christmas songs. The Chamber choir provided the singing of a collection of 13 songs. The chamber choir also provided the dialogue for the skits.

The performance was an annual fundraiser and tickets were sold for $20. The meal included: pork chops, green beans, cheesy potatoes, a roll, and a cupcake. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go towards new choir robes and show choir costumes.

The 7-12 choir director, Ms. Kelsey Burns even had some thoughts on how she felt about how the dinner and performance would go. Miss Burns stated that she thought the Madrigal Dinner would be successful and it was a lot of music and hard work. She believed they would have a great night of music-making. She also mentioned that she appreciated the students hard work and willingness through the process.
